فمثلا في بداية الربيع يكون مستوى الماء في البحيرة منخفضا بسبب عدم ذوبان الكتل الجليدية المحيطة مما يؤدي إلى انعكاس الضوء بصورة مختلفة تماما عما هو عليه في أوقات لاحقة من السنة عندما يؤدي ذوبان الكتل الثليجية الى رفع مستوى الماء بأكثر من متر واحد.
